Create Your Own Annual Themed Reunion

While camping I met a group of fun, dynamic people who’ve been friends since elementary school in Poway, California. Over the years they’ve stayed friends, even forming a poker group as an excuse to get together and stay in each other’s lives. As time continued to march on, many married and had children. Since the poker get-togethers didn’t serve to bring their families together, they wanted something more… an opportunity to gather that fit their current family life stage.

The group of friends all wanted very much to stay connected, so they continued the poker gatherings, but added something more. They started an annual camp out bringing all the families together at Cuyamaca Rancho State Park. Now going on 10 years strong, this tradition of camping, playing games, cooking, and sharing stories by campfire, culminates each year with everyone making a garment or something out of tie dye. Whether a throwback to their 70s generation or simply a great way to share with their kids a resurging (tie dye) trend, I love that these people found a creative way to help facilitate staying friends, sharing time and their families – and each year they get to go home with a tie dyed souvenir. Now that’s groovy!

Next time you’re searching for an excuse to bring friends and family together – think outside the box, or in this case, think bowls of primary colors.
