Off Again. First Stop: the Elks!

Al, the dogs and I are off on another summer adventure. This trip will take us from Southern California to Maine in a big loop north east then south and west. Our first stop was Tempe, Arizona, where we stayed at the Tempe Elks Lodge RV Facility.

We had trouble finding the entrance to the RV Park so we pulled into the middle turning lane just passed the Lodge and called them. Almost immediately we had some guy in the middle of the road knocking on our door. It was an Elks member who was in the bar when our call came in. I quickly invited him in so he wouldn’t get run over, and he directly us around the block to an entrance off an adjoining street. At that corner was yet another Elks member in a bright crossing guard-orange shirt directing us in. This was our first stop on a 5-month RV trip, and I loved this welcoming, attentive reception. Thank you Tempe Lodge #2251 for that warm and hospitable welcome!

The Elks Lodge RV Facilities are definitely a benefit RVers should be aware of. It does require membership in the Elks Organization, and it gives you access to nearly 2,000 Elks Lodges across the United States with about half offering some sort of RV facility. Each Lodge sets its own price and rules for RV parking. Accommodations range from dry camping in a parking lot to RV sites offering 30 or 50 amp service, water hookups and sewer connections. Some Lodges have facilities nicer than your average RV Park, like the Westminster, CO. Elks Lodge (#2227). Its RV sites are situated around an expansive park that surrounds a covered entertainment area.

You’ll also find Elks Lodges offering affordable RV facilities in premium locations where camping is typically very pricey. For example, the Santa Barbara, CA Elks Lodge #613 offers 17 RV sites with 50 amp electric, water and wireless Internet and a dump station.

Another great benefit of staying at an Elks Lodge is the warm welcome, cool beverage and, depending on the night, a tasty meal.

The Elks Organization was established in 1868, and its focus is benevolent, educational and patriotic community-minded programs. The Elks Order spends more than $80,000,000 annually helping people and communities.

To become an Elks Member you have to be invited to join by a member in good standing. For information and to submit a Membership Inquiry Form go to: elks.org/who/
